Shortfalls in System Projects? |
[Return] |
Note that system projects must, within reason, take responsibility for how the system turns out, and thus shortfalls in the systems are themselves shortfalls in the system projects.
| System projects are frequently late and overbudget. | It is not unusual for system projects to be abandoned after large expenditure. | Shortcomings are often identified during testing and acceptance requiring expensive fixes and rework. |
| Customers often have to accept and live with the consequences of performance shortfalls. | Systems are often difficult to use and require expensive modifications. | Systems are often much more expensive to maintain than expected. |
| Systems often 'breakdown' or prove to be unusable at critical times. | Systems are often difficult to update and have to be retired earlier than expected. | Information about a system is often not easily available for use during upgrades or development of successor systems. |
